Hailing from Norway, Aspherium are a blend of death and thrash metal tempered with progressive elements, discordant notes and melodic harmony.
How would you describe your music?
Melodic death metal with progressive elements and blends of many different styles.
Tell us about how the history of the project?
We started out in 2007 and have released three albums, the latest one The Embers of Eternity in 2019. We have mostly played in Norway with bands like Decapitated and Blood Red Throne, but we have also toured Europe.
What are your influences/ musical heroes?
Opeth, Meshuggah, Metallica, Pantera, Pink Floyd, Dream Theater, Nile to name a few!
What inspires you?
Inspiration can come from pretty much anything, something that happens in our lives, from a movie, book or video game, or just from hearing a certain genre of music. Also just from being out in nature, that usually makes the inspiration flow.
Do you write on the road? Or do you prefer to write in the studio?
Yeah, that can happen anywhere. But usually complete songs gets put together at home. But riffs and ideas can happen at soundcheck or backstage, or an idea will come to you when you don’t even have an instrument around.
What is your favourite song to perform live?
Reality Unfolds, which is one of our most popular songs. It has pretty much all of our different elements in one song, and it’s pretty epic. People always seem to love that one live. It also has a part where the crowd usually sings a long, so that’s pretty cool.
What would be your dream tour to be a part of?
Metallica and Machine Head. That would be amazing. Our music is probably a bit brutal for many Metallica fans, but that would be a dream come true.
What are you current thoughts on the music industry?
It’s a very interesting time for sure. We have so many different ways to reach people and it’s very easy to get our music out there. But it’s also very easy to get lost in the vast amounts of bands that are out there.
What is the funniest/weirdest experience you have had on tour?
Being stuck in a blizzard in our car all night, and then arriving at the venue, which was a boat and walking straight onstage without having slept or eaten anything was pretty damn weird. But somehow we played pretty well!
What are your future plans?
We will continue to play live and promote the new album. We will release some more videos of the songs from the album. And we are also working on some new music. We want to release music more often. We usually have a long time between albums, and we want to change that a bit going forward.
